Shove and Marriage Roller Derby Bout
Yesterday we went to watch a roller derby bout between Severn Roller Torrent and Bedfordshire RollerGirls because my sister is in SRT and it was her first time skating in a bout. It was amaaaaaazing. I took lots of photos (of course) but mostly just from the seats, being as it was my first time seeing a roller derby bout so I wanted to watch it properly. I've been through all the photos today (it only took me 7 hours) and overall they're not to bad, considering. Next time I think I might go down and stand/sit nearer to the track to hopefully get some really good shots. Anyway, here are some of my favourites out of the hundreds I took...

Skate Practice
When my sister went to uni in September she joined Severn Roller Torrent Roller Derby League which is really awesome. She finally got her own skates and the rest of her gear and brought them back with her when she came home for a couple of days this week.
Being as she's in the bout in a couple of weeks she needed to practise and so I finally got to take some photos and practise panning on her, which I've been wanting to do for ages. The first attempts were pretty much complete failures but I persevered (like I always have to with photography) and I got some ones that I'm really happy with in the end. I also took some non-panning ones which I think look awesome too.
Now I've practised a bit and know I'm capable, hopefully I'll take some photos at their bout and be able to get some good ones. :D

Filters
I've looked at the set of Holga filters on lomography.com about a billion times but I always sort of think, couldn't I just make my own instead of spending £30 (+£12 UK delivery) similar to what I've seen other people do? I always had it in mind so I looked out for things like sweet wrappers I could substitute for the proper things.
One English lesson almost a year ago, it was one of the last lessons before study leave so our teacher brought in a box of Celebrations or something like that which everyone had one of, and then my friend Izzy helped me make sure they didn't rip or throw away their wrappers and she helped me collect them (isn't that nice?). I tried them out briefly when I first got them but other than that they've just been in the zip pocket of my bag, until about an hour ago.
I've got 3ish weeks until my unit 2 AS photography exam and one aspect of what I'm doing for it is the idea of paradise and that sort of thing, so I'm going to be testing out a lot of cool stuff (like getting some disposable cameras and doing various things to the lens) to make really pretty, colourful photos. I've been messing with gradients in Photoshop but I remembered about these makeshift filters I had earlier, so decided to give them a try, and I got some really nice results (in my opinion) and pretty much exactly what I was hoping for.
I took some with my Nikon D40 and some with my Holga, so here are some of the digital ones:

TTV (Through the Viewfinder)
For anyone that doesn't know, TTV/Through the Viewfinder photography is when you take a photo with one camera through the viewfinder of another, normally twin-lens reflex cameras. (Through the Viewfinder wikipedia page)
I'd wanted to try it since my sister told me about it almost four years ago but didn't ever think I'd really get the chance because I didn't think I'd have access to the twin lens reflex camera, even though I do know now that they're relatively cheap on eBay (I don't use eBay though, and I think that if I started I would buy wayyyy too much, especially when it comes to photography related stuff). I did look at some fake TTV photoshop tutorials though, and made some TTV-looking photos like this one of Vicar's Close in Wells:
However, my photography teacher clearly does use eBay because she bought a lovely Kodak Duaflex for around £15 some time ago and I finally got chance to play with it today.
So here are a few of my first attempts at TTV photography, I'd like to bring the camera home so I can take photos of more interesting things, other than what's in the photography studio/what I can take in there.

Heinrich Heidersberger
Legendary German photographer Heinrich Heidersberger worked on a cruise ship, the MS Atlantic, in 1954. He took thousands of pictures of Americans sailing from New York to Havana -- something Americans haven't been allowed to do for almost 50 years. The pictures are now on display in Hamburg.
